How to Live the Life of an Achiever

Each one of us has a passion and a desire burning inside them to achieve something specific and unique. This is something you often think about when going to school, when leaving for work, or when taking a stroll in the park. It is there at the back of your mind probing your thoughts and challenging your very existence. Some people call this a dream.

While this conviction seems incessant, few of us act on it. Even for those who go ahead to act, a good percentage of them lack the true commitment of pursuing these compulsions to achieve the goal desired. 

The good news is, whatever your goal, it is not too far for you to reach it. It may seem way off from your starting line, but as long as you work towards it, you will get to it sooner than later. There are key principles that you need to internalize to succeed in this seemingly difficult path.

Commitment is Extremely Important

Assume you are doing your normal duties at work or at home and an idea drops into your mind. You quickly grab a notebook and write it down. Because of its brilliance, you cannot wait for the end of day to sit on it and just analyze it.

When you get back home and go through your normal routine before embarking on your idea, everything disappears and once again you stare blankly at your notebook or computer screen. When such an event happens, you may blame yourself or the long working hours you have had for the misfortune of losing your idea.

The important point here is that, motivation alone cannot drive you towards achieving your goals in life. You need an extra tool known as commitment. This is when you sit down at your desk and think through your idea even when your mental energy is gone. Commitment is wearing your jogging shoes when every part of your body is tired and your feet are numb. Simply, buckle up and get to business.

Focus on the Journey

The path to success is never a smooth trail. You may imagine that because it is your dream to start that business or to save a certain amount of money within a given duration that you will have a compass ready and visible marks all the way to the finish line.

Everybody want to climb to the top of their mountain. However, a few do it and many just go around it in despair because we see no path up the mountain. Think about it, success would be so boring if there were shortcuts and lifts leading to it.

Instead of tiring your eyes straining to look at a destination that is far off, try looking around you because inspiration to go up the mountain is closer to you than you can imagine. Take time to learn, experience, improve, and above everything else, stay in the moment.

Cultivate a Positive Mind

Whether you are anxious, tired, having a bad day, or whatever else, always stay positive. Positive thoughts are important because they fuel your entire system towards your adventure. They will push you towards experience, experiment, and finally out of your comfort box.

Doubts are not helpful in any way and you can’t achieve a thing if you are a doubtful person. Your performance will be hindered and they will sidetrack you.

Don’t Make It Simple on Yourself

Leaving a comfort zone is never an easy decision. This is because your comfort zone is your realm, your domain, and an area within which you know every turn and you can jump every obstacle with a lot of ease. However, such an easy life can’t lead you to your achievements.

Instead of entertaining fear that only serves to keep you down, challenge yourself and take a risk even if failure is not far off. When we fail, we learn so much more than we do from success. Do not throw your gloves down, but rather put them back up and try again.

Beware of Distractions

You could be at your desk trying to figure out how you are going to plan your best-selling novel and all of a sudden, your phone vibrates and it is another chat. The motivation and focus shifts from the planning and writing to the phone conversation. However small the vibration may be, however quick you look at the phone, it is enough to distract you.

Before you know it, you have engaged in a lengthy conversation and even extended to more friends. After the distraction, you try to refocus on your screen, but you realize that you are worn out. The advice here is that if you seriously want to achieve your goals, keep off distractions as much as you can.

Prioritize Planning

Instability when working can be attributed to lack of a proper forward-looking plan. At times, you feel extremely motivated and positive and shortly after, you feel numb and tired. The times when you feel motivated and physically available are very few. It is for this reason that you should plan your schedule way ahead of time.

If you know that you feel at your best in the mornings, then make a clear window in your schedule and let this be the first step to fulfilling your dreams. Whatever time you feel available and motivated, try to capitalize on that window.

Take Advantage of Every Opportunity

Unless you are super human, it becomes almost impossible to completely clear out your schedule and allocate every minute toward goal achievement. There are other duties that await us such as school work, volunteer service, and work assignments.

Try and make the best of every situation. For instance, if you are filing your paperwork at the office, take that time to think about your ideas. You never know, something might just pop to your mind.

After doing the above, remember that achievement should not drive you to an extent where you wear yourself down. If you feel weak and tired, give yourself a breather by taking a break. It is a huge mistake to strain yourself as you claw your way up the mountain because this is not dedication. Pushing yourself over the edge may even hinder the progress you are looking for.
